Large Vintage Leaded Stained Glass Window with Rosebud Motif
A beautiful example of early twentieth-century leaded glass, this large stained glass window features a stylized rosebud in soft pink and amber, framed by bright green leaves and set atop a long, elegant amber stem that ends in a small drop of blue. The design is set against a textured, dimpled clear glass background that catches and scatters the light, giving the window a soft, glowing quality throughout the day.
The graceful, elongated lines and stylized rose reflect the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau influences so popular in the early 1900s, when windows like this brought color and light into entryways, stairwells, and front doors. Housed in its original white-painted wooden frame, it's a striking piece of architectural history that's ready to hang, lean, or be reimagined in a new space.
Country of Origin: Unknown, Sourced in England
Estimated Date: Early 20th century
Material: Leaded stained and textured glass in painted wood frame
Dimensions: 36" L X 18 ½" W X 1 ¾" D
Condition
Good vintage condition, consistent with age and use. The glass and leading appear intact, with the textured glass showing natural surface dust and wear. The painted wooden frame shows chipping and paint loss, exposed wood along the edges, and some separation at the frame joints, as is expected of salvaged architectural pieces of this age. These characteristics contribute to the authenticity and character of the piece and do not detract from its beauty. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.
Collected Notes
Leaded stained glass windows became a hallmark of homes built in the late Victorian, Edwardian, and interwar years, when even modest houses were finished with colorful glass in doors, transoms, and stair windows. Stylized roses and tulips were especially popular motifs, drawing on the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau movements and their love of natural forms rendered in simple, flowing lines. As homes were renovated over the decades, many of these windows were removed, and well-preserved examples are now treasured as architectural salvage.
Why We Collected It
We fell for the soft palette of pink, amber, and green and the graceful, elongated design that feels both romantic and refined. The textured background glass makes the colors glow as the light changes, and its weathered frame tells the story of a long life in a home.
Tisbury House Styling Notes
Hang this window in front of an existing window to filter light and add privacy in a bathroom, kitchen, or stair landing, or lean it against a wall on a mantel, sideboard, or deep windowsill. It also makes a beautiful architectural accent in a sunroom, garden room, or potting shed, where natural light can bring its colors to life.
