Pair of Antique French Cast Iron and Marble Café Tables, Late 19th Century
A rare and beautiful matched pair of late nineteenth-century French café tables, each with a cool marble top resting on a handsome cast iron base. Tables like these once lined the cafés, brasseries, and terraces of Belle Époque France, and together they bring that same effortless Parisian charm to a home or garden today.
Each table is rectangular, measuring 47¼ inches long, giving the pair remarkable versatility. Use them side by side, place them in two different rooms, or push them end to end to create a generous table nearly eight feet long for gatherings and long dinners. The cast iron bases have developed a rich, aged patina over more than a century, while the marble tops show the soft veining and gentle wear that only genuine age can bring.

Collected Notes
Marble-topped café tables became a fixture of French life during the Belle Époque, when cafés and brasseries flourished across Paris and the provinces. Their durable cast iron bases and cool, easy-to-clean marble tops made them ideal for busy café service, while local foundries often added decorative detail to the ironwork. Original nineteenth-century examples are increasingly sought after, and matched pairs that have stayed together, especially in this larger rectangular size, are a special find for collectors and designers alike.
Why We Collected It
We were drawn to the timeless pairing of iron and marble and the sense of French café life these tables carry. Finding a matched pair from the late nineteenth century, in such a useful size, felt too special to pass up, and we love how many ways they can be used, together or apart.
Tisbury House Styling Notes
Push the pair together for a long dining table on a terrace, in a conservatory, or in a dining room surrounded by bentwood chairs, and set it with linen, candles, and garden flowers. Used separately, they make elegant writing desks, kitchen work tables, or consoles behind a sofa or along an entryway wall. They're equally at home indoors or on a covered porch, bringing old-world French character wherever they land.
