Vintage English Silver Plate Three-Piece Cruet Set with Cobalt Blue Glass Liners, EPNS
Vintage English Silver Plate Three-Piece Cruet Set with Cobalt Blue Glass Liners, EPNS
A charming three-piece cruet set in vintage English silver plate, made up of a matching pair of salt cellars and a pepper shaker. The salt cellars share a classic rounded cauldron shape with a finely crimped rim, each raised on three elegant scroll feet, while the baluster-shaped pepper shaker stands on three small feet beneath a pierced, removable domed lid topped with a little finial.
Both salt cellars retain their cobalt blue glass liners, a rich, jewel-toned contrast to the softly gleaming silver plate, and the set is marked "E.P.N.S." for electroplated nickel silver. With its gently worn patina and coordinated design, it's a lovely way to bring a touch of traditional English dining to the table.

Collected Notes
Cruet sets were an essential part of the English dining table from the Georgian era onward, and salt cellars were often made in pairs so they could be set at either end of the table. Cobalt blue glass liners became especially popular in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, protecting the silver from the corrosive effects of salt while adding a striking flash of color. The "E.P.N.S." mark, widely used by English makers, indicates silver electroplated over nickel silver, a durable and elegant choice for everyday tableware.
Why We Collected It
We love the deep cobalt blue glass set against the silver, and the way the three pieces echo one another with their crimped rims and little feet. Finding a matching pair of salt cellars together with their pepper shaker made this a special find, full of old-fashioned dinner-table charm.
Tisbury House Styling Notes
Place a salt cellar at each end of the dining table with the pepper shaker in between, or bring the set out for Sunday roasts and holiday dinners. The salt cellars also make lovely holders for flaky salt, capers, or condiments, and look charming as ring dishes or trinket holders on a vanity. Display the set on a sideboard or bar cart alongside our Viners lion head urn and other silver pieces for a collected, English country house feel.
