A characterful vintage Persian rug, hand-knotted in the Hamadan region of northwest Iran; one of the oldest and most prolific rug-weaving districts in the country. This piece features the classic Herati (or “fish”) pattern: an allover lattice of diamonds, rosettes, and curling serrated leaves, densely repeated across a red field. The design is framed by a bold navy zigzag guard border and a wide ivory main border patterned with small geometric motifs, with a final dark indigo outer band.
Woven on a cotton foundation with a hand-knotted wool pile, this rug has the sturdy, durable construction Hamadan weavings are known for; the kind that only gets better with decades of use. The soft, faded rose and clay tones, along with the naturally worn pile, give it that sought-after lived-in, collected-over-time look that’s hard to fake.
